For Today:

Man is as full of potentiality as he is of impotence. George Santayana

Hope and hopelessness are part of my disease. Hope tells me there is a better way; hopelessness says, “What’s the use?” I recognize hopelessness for what it is: my mind protecting me from disappointment. Hopelessness served at one time, but I don’t need that device today. I have a Higher Power that gives me everything I need. I am willing to continue to cast out old ideas, to keep turning my life over to the care and protection of God. Therein lies hope.

For today: My potential is in direct proportion to my willingness to let go of the shackles of self-will, to get out of my own way. On one end of the scale, I accomplish wonders; on the other, I am powerless.

My takeaway:
I like this. My new – haven’t had one for a long time – sponsor suggesting reading it.
“I have a Higher Power that gives me everythign I need. I am willing to continue to cast out old ideas,
to keep turning my life over the the care and protection of God.
Therein lies hope.
— But I DON’T think I have to “let go of self-will” totally! We’ll see… I *think* we just mean different things by it, this reading and I.

You don’t have to earn love any more than you have to earn the right to breathe. You have a right to breathe . . . because you exist. You have a right to be loved . . . because you exist. That is all you need to know. You are worthy of your own love. Don’t allow society’s negative opinions, or your parents or friends, make you think that you are not good enough. The reality of your being is that you are lovable. Accept this and know this. When you really do, you will find that people treat you as a lovable person>

Close your eyes and imagine yourself going back in time. To a time before you were born, to a time that you find peaceful, romantic, soulful, loving, gentle, beautiful, inspirational, fulfilling, and simply satisfying. And if no time comes into your mind, allow yourself to feel these feelings, relaxing and bringing them into full consciousness as to where you are and where you are going. It’s okay if you don’t know where you are and where you are going; we’re going to help you, we’re going to remind you of your life’s purpose, we’re going to set about to bring in the journey of your lifetime. A gentle nudge in the direction of what it was you wanted to accomplish while you were here on this great planet called Earth and what you wanted to do while you were here. What you wanted to improve for yourself, for the world, for mankind. To bring that desire full circle, to allow it to open up and to simply know now how it can come into your body, unannounced, to simply know it, feel it, touch it, to create it effortlessly. To have all the individuals in your life right now around you who can assist you in creating this masterpiece and to not be afraid to ask them for assistance, guidance, funding, and direction or to be willing to move them around a bit so that things may flow better as well. You have all the answers, for you brought them in with you.

An inquiry into the true nature of receiving also reveals that receiving is a prelude to giving. Receiving and giving are two sides of the same coin. They are the yin and yang of creation. They are the vice versa of abundance. In other words, your capacity to receive is what determines your capacity to give; and the more freely you give, the more freely you are given to.

It’s amazing how the insights provided by meditating can transport even difficult personal relationships into a broader perspective. It’s as if a light within us turns on, helping us to understand the other person more fully. Or perhaps it helps us prioritize what’s important in the relationship and what isn’t. Whatever the reason, empathy and compassion are great healers. For someone with limited understanding, even small things can seem like the end of the world. But for a soul aware of its vastness, solutions are easier. The soul is never trapped or hopeless, for life is too important to submit to unhappiness and despair.
